Web site offers info on educators

This story was posted at the Tallahassee Democrat - www.tallahassee.com - Tallahassee, FL..

I think that this is a good idea. Teachers need to be held accountable. All too often we hear of teachers who are disciplined having been disciplined before in other school districts or even in other states.

Parents can do their homework on teachers through a new statewide Web site that allows them to search possible disciplinary actions taken against a Florida educator's certificate.

The site includes dates when the action took place, along with a description and summary. Searches can be made for statewide information or for individual districts. According to the Florida Department of Education, the site will not show current investigations, which are confidential, or disciplinary actions made prior to Jan. 1.

I only know of this in Florida right now, but it may become available in your area, too.
