Gig Harbor school administrator taped more than kissing kids

Posted at KING5.com | News for Seattle, Washington.

The Gig Harbor High School administrator who was reassigned after showing parents video of two girls kissing has shown other parents video of their kids making out.

A report prepared for the Peninsula School District says Keith Nelson used surveillance video to prove kids were involved in fights, thefts or inappropriate displays of affection.

Nelson was reassigned April 30 after his handling of two girls caught kissing. An investigation of that incident was obtained by the Tacoma News Tribune through a public records request.

The report found that Nelson did not violate school district policy or discriminate against the girls based on sexual orientation or religion.

This is a follow up to a story that I mentioned in a post back in May 2007.

So far, I can see no reason that Mr. Nelson was reassigned other than the fact that he was helping parents to be real parents to their children. He was using the surveillance system to present evidence in the event that a student was accused of breaking school policy, or at the request of parents to help watch over their children.

Personally, I commend Mr. Nelson for recognizing who really is in charge of these kids and who needs to be notified in the event that the children are not behaving appropriately. There is no indication that he was initiating any kind of trouble with the kids, only that he was responding to the request of concerned parents and working to enforce school policy.
